Hardworking show-offs in the office are often more highly regarded than productive colleagues working from home

In many offices, the person who turns on the lights first thing in the morning and is the last to leave in the evening is still regarded as the gold standard of work ethic. The fact that this colleague might spend half the morning analyzing the highlights of the Champions League or clicking through quirky animal videos often doesn’t matter. He’s there, after all. You can see him. He seems focused. He’s “productive.”
It’s a completely different story for those who focus on their work at their desk at home. As soon as it takes five minutes longer than usual to get a reply in the chat, the thoughts start racing: Is she lying on the couch? Is he doing the laundry on the side? Are they even really focused on their work?
